How long have you been practising yoga?
Gosh, on and off for 30 years! In the past year, every day – Hatha, Kundalini and Iyengar. I also like to explore other types of yoga and movement such as Pilates, Yin and Dance. Mix it up a bit!

What classes at Nilaya House do you attend?
Kundalini with Nancy and Leela
Iyengar with Naseem

Why do you practice yoga? What benefits does it bring?
I had major surgery last year and found that yoga was an excellent way to build back my strength, increase my fitness and really connect with who I am. Through these practices, I have benefited in many ways such as knowing that I am part of a nurturing and encouraging community, feeling healthy and energetic, grounded and more at peace.

What is your favourite posture and why?
A wise and wonderful friend told me once that there are only 3 postures in yoga that are the hardest to master – Tadasana, Dandasana and Savasana. I will leave it to you to think about why!

What’s your advice for people wanting to start yoga?
Immerse yourself in a foundation course – where you will get to know the basics of yoga and its philosophy and correct alignment to truly benefit from each pose. Yoga is not just about the physical, there is so much more to it! The other thing I loved about jumping into a ‘course’ is meeting other like-minded folks, being part of a learning community, exploring together and who knows, enjoying a cup of tea after class!
