How long have you been practising yoga?
More than 15 years now.
What classes at Nilaya House do you attend?
Why do you practice yoga? What benefits does it bring?
I practice more for my mind than the body!
What is your favourite posture and why?
Shoulder stand – it helps calm and destresses me while building strength at the same time.
What’s your advice for people wanting to start yoga?
Any amount of practice is good, but you have to start somewhere. The practice is not about others, just try and get better than yourself. It’s not a competitive sport, but rather a long journey.
I started yoga when I had a knee injury and had to stop running – and all the other high-intensity sports. I’ve never even looked back. I’ve tried a lot of different styles and gone from Ashtanga to Hatha to Iyengar. I haven’t done Ashtanga in months due to cervical spondylitis, but hope to get back to it very soon, once I am all mended!
Also – try different teachers, as each one contributes differently to your practice.
