How long have you been practising yoga?
I’ve been practising yoga since 2016 and have been coming to Nilaya House for the past two years.

What classes at Nilaya House do you attend?
Iyengar and I’ve recently started Ashtanga!

Why do you practice yoga? What benefits does it bring?
I love the discipline that comes from practising yoga, which comes from the coordination of focus, breath, and movement. While the poses of all the different types of yoga are the same, doing each one correctly requires a lot of strength, perseverance, and time. I learn something new with every class – because there’s always something to work on.
The benefits – increased flexibility, strength, posture, mental awareness, self-acceptance, confidence!

What is your favourite posture and why?
‘Vrikshasana’ known as the tree pose.
It gives you the sense of standing tall while being focused and grounded. It improves balance and stability in the legs while helping one achieve balance and stability in other aspects of life! It gives me self-confidence because it makes me feel like a tree that stands tall against all odds.

What’s your advice for people wanting to start yoga?
You should definitely have a go, but be patient – to achieve something worthwhile, you have to be committed.

Please feel free to add in anything else you would like to share about your yoga journey.
I’d like to thank all the excellent teachers of Nilaya House for their sincerity and devotion to the practice of yoga. Namaste!
