How long have you been practising yoga?
I started practising yoga in 2017. I used to watch YouTube videos until I finally went to a class with a friend when I was still living in Abu Dhabi.

What classes at Nilaya House do you attend?
I attend the Ashtanga led, Mysore and restorative yoga classes.

Why do you practice yoga? What benefits does it bring?
I like how yoga makes me feel after practice, I feel energized yet rested. It also brings me calmness. Moving your body is important and yoga allows you to become stronger and more flexible. I always have a nice time when I practice at Nilaya House. It’s a safe and beautiful space. After a while, it’s not just about the practice, you discover there are more things to learn: the philosophy of the practice, the history but also chanting.

And when I’m in my classroom, I feel more patient, my mind is clear and I’m present. My students also benefit from what I learn on the mat.

What is your favourite posture and why?
Lately, my favourite posture is Baddha Konasana. It’s a nice break after Kukkutasana and before all the roll ups. Also it feels really nice to sit on the ground and breathe.

What’s your advice for people wanting to start yoga?
It’s a wonderful and nourishing practice and it’s never the same. My advice would be to take your time and have fun. You will notice changes and they will contribute to your wellbeing.
