Dear Nilaya House friends,

Yoga is one of those things where the more you do it, the greater the benefits, so we are happy to be expanding our timetable to offer more options throughout the day to practice yoga with experienced teachers.

Starting in March we have some extra early evening Iyengar Yoga classes as well as early morning Vinaysa Krama classes, a beautiful practice of asanas synchronised with the breath, in the tradition of Krishnamacharya (see the full timetable below).

I will be taking some time off during March to travel to India for my own personal yoga practice (March 12-30). During this time we will welcome back KPJAYI Level 2 authorised teacher Tonya Ruddick as guest teacher at Ashtanga Yoga Dubai. I look forward to returning at the end of March ready to celebrate AYD’s fifth birthday in April and participate in our
bi-annual daily practice challenge. Stay tuned for details!

Yours in Yoga,

Nea.

Pranayama, which literally means ‘to extend the vital life force’, or prana, is an incredibly
rich practice made up of many breathing techniques that vary in complexity from ones simple enough for a child to do to those appropriate only for experienced practitioners. Learning to relax properly is an important method of de-stressing. In our fast paced lives very few of us take time out to relax, calm down and relieve stress. Relaxation combined with pranayama brings about an overall state of well being on a physical, physiological, emotional and psychological level. Join Naseem for this special workshop on pranayama and relaxation. Suitable for those with established yoga practices.

AYURVEDIC RECIPE

SPROUTED MUNG BEAN KITCHARI

This is an easy-to-make delicious recipe, from Kate ODonnell’s Everyday Ayurveda cookbook, ideal for supporting a daily yoga practice. For an even lighter kitchari, swap out half the basmati rice with quinoa. Ayurveda adores the mung bean which does not promote any imbalance in any body type. These small green round guys are a building food, yet they are light to digest.

Ingredients:
5 cups of water
3/4 cups of green mung beans, sprouted
3/4 cup basmati rice
1 tbsp sattvic spice mix
2 inch piece free ginger finely diced
1 tsp salt
1-2 tsp ghee
Fresh coriander for garnish

Method:
In a large suacepan, boil 5 cups of water on high heat. Add rice, beans, spice mix and ginger to boiling water and bring to the boil again. Turn heat down and simmer partially covered for 20-30 minutes. Add a little more note water if need. Turn of the heat, stir in salt and ghee and let stand for 5 minutes. Serve with fresh coriander and a side of seasonal vegetables.
