How long have you been practising yoga?
I started practising in January 2019, 2 Years and 5 months ago.

What classes at Nilaya House do you attend?
I attend a variety of classes: Ashtanga, Iyengar, Yin, and Meditation.

Why do you practice yoga? What benefits does it bring?
I practice for both mental and physical well-being, along with the extra benefit of getting to know a lot of good people, fellow practitioners and teachers, for which I am very grateful. The practice has many silent benefits that are not evident in the active mind and not visually apparent, yet change a person’s outlook in both the short and long terms.

A recent interview that I heard of a Buddhist monk was that one day he joined a yoga class by chance in the monastery and did ‘stretching’ for about 30 minutes and then went on to meditate, finding the movement unlocked the meditation process for him. Just a small example.

What is your favourite posture and why?
Utthita trikonasana is my favourite posture. Although I still can’t do it properly, I like it as it opens the body, it is an open pose.

What’s your advice for people wanting to start yoga?
My advice is to give it a try, start slowly without expectations, and keep doing it. It does not matter what it looks like, it matters that you do it with intention and integrity.
